You had your first small group discussion with your current book this week. Describe the experience. Did the discussion contribute to your understanding of the first section of the novel? Did hearing other's ideas help you formulate ideas of your own? How would you rate your personal contribution to the discussion? Do you like this format better than everyone reading the same novel as a class? Explain in at least 100 words. You need only respond to me.

It was kind of a let down. We did what we thought we were supposed to do , and it didn't discuss as much as I thought we would. I ended up listening in on a different group who were reading the same book. And they were kind enough to invite me to join them and they had a nice discussion. This format has its ups and downs. I like that we are only responsible to a small group of people that we could dictate our own consequences. But I did like hearing the ideas of everybody in the class rather than just the group.

The discussion went very well for my group. I was worried that in the group there’d be a person that didn’t contribute at all (because that’s what normally happens when people are assigned to groups) but that doesn’t seem to be the case thus far. Being able to discuss what I pulled from the reading and comparing it to what others got out of it is really helpful.

Because I was gone for 2 days I missed the group discussion, so I still need to read the rest and do my part. From what I have read so far, it's actually really surprisingly good. I didn't know how well I would follow along in the book, but you can understand it and follow it quite well. I'll make sure and read what I need to and do my job as a text connector. I did see the name "Grendel" while I was reading in instantly thought of what we have been doing in this class. From someone who's not really into reading, i'm actually looking forward to keeping up with this book.

During our group discussion, we were able to gain a better knowledge of the novel. I enjoyed being able to talk about “Anna Dressed in Blood” with my group because we all seem to like it. We were able to talk about how the characters interact and what we think will happen next. Talking with the group, we gave each other predictions that the others didn't think of. Having everyone talk about the book was a lot of fun because I got to hear their reactions. It was fun to see other people love the book as much as I do. I like having a small group to discuss with because in a class discussion not everyone gets to voice their opinion.

My discussion with my group went really well. Surprisingly all the boys in my group actually ready and when we talked about it, it helped me understand a lot of things I was unsure about. Hearing things from their point of view made me see things in a different way. There are still some things that we are all unsure of since we have not finished the book, but we all made some pretty good guesses on what's going to happen based on what we've read so far. We all did out part and everything is good so far!

It was sort of rough. We had one group member (through no fault of their own) was absent and didn't get their book or job until the day of so they weren't able to contribute. Not everyone in the group is into the story as others so that doesn't make for great discussion either. Everyone did their jobs but we weren't able to keep a conversation going really. I'm excited to get further into the book and also have more time to prepare the discussion more. I feel like that will help a whole bunch.

It wasn't as good as it could of been. We all didn't really know we were all suppose to be on the same document so basically all we did during our discussion was fill in our document online. We talked about the book a little bit but not that much. I would rate my personal contribution pretty high because I did my reading and had my question prepared. My part of the discussion didn't go as bad as I thought because we ended up helping each other think of more questions to add to the list of discussion question. But other than that it wasn't an overall great first discussion. I'm taking this a learning experience and hoping for the best for our next discussion!

After diving into it, I think we started to understand what exactly we had to be doing and it became a little more understandable. We all did the work we were suppose to, but we definitely didn't discuss as much as we should have. I think we are a lot more prepared for next week. Everyone in our group seems reliable and I believe they take this seriously and will have their work finished when it is due.

It was a little unorganized due to the fact that it was our first discussion, and we didn't know exactly what was going on. However, it did help with my understanding of this section. It was nice to hear the other ideas of my group members. It helped me open my mind to the ideas that I hadn't even thought of. I was gone for two days, so my personal contribution was not as well as it could have been. I did do my task, but I hope that next week I will be more active in the conversation. I personally really like this way of reading. It helps me focus on the book more, and process the thoughts of my group members. When reading in a big group I tend to get distracted easily. This was a good discussion, but I hope that next weeks is better.

My book discussion with my group went really well actually! My group members interpretations of the book helped me understand and discuss how we all saw the imagery and the plot of the book. I could have personally spoke up more in the discussion but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. We all spoke up equally and it went very well. I enjoy this format better than the teacher telling us what to read because we get a choice in what we want. That way we actually read the book and if we don't like it we have ourselves to blame and not complain to the teacher.

I agree about choosing the book . High possibility of enjoying the book unlike sometimes what the teacher picks out

I think that discussing the book with everyone in my group , made this book project or whatever it is, really fun. I think that it really helps when we all talk about it so we can get more into the book and read a lot more. And im really glad that we got to the book . So we can't really whine . I love the author of the book my group is reading . I'm going to enjoy this one a lot

Our group, well, me and Cody for now, had a really nice discussion. We talked about the format of the book and what I think is going to happen since he already read almost the whole book. We both really like the book so far. I like this discussion format a lot more since I'm able to get my own thoughts in and its just a one-on-one or small group discussion and not the whole class. We hope that Jaxon will be able to join us next discussion so we can have more input and another opinion on the book.

Our first group discussion was rough since it was the very first one. We didn't understand what to really do, we got the midst of what we were supposed to do with it but not a complete understanding. So hopefully by the next discussion we will understand how to put it all into a discussion itself and not just be shooting blanks on what to do. We did manage to get a good understanding on what we had read. So other than not being able to completely understand what to do with the assignments we had somewhat of a good discussion.

My group did an awesome job with discussion. We learned lots together and some of the names of things were hard to pronounce so we discussed them together. We all did our fair share of the discussion and our parts I love the individual parts we each have to do, because then you know the person did actually read the book and didn't just look online because they gave deep description. It's also nice that each one of us in the class got to choose our first choice I think that benefited with the groups and discussions.

Our group discussion was alright. We were a little confused on what we were supposed to do. We thought that we were going to work on our jobs in class when they were supposed to be done before class. But with some miscues we still managed to get it done and have it all organized. I definitely like the small groups more because with the smaller numbers you have a chance to talk to everyone about it. Whenever it's the whole class people don't get the chance to discuss with each other like we can now.

My groups discussion didn't go like I thought it would. We got into our group and one person read off their summary of the chapters and then I read off my discussion questions. After that no one had much to say. It was hard because one group member was absent so they couldn't do their part, which left an empty spot in our discussion. From my perspective it looked like all the groups were confused on what we were supposed to be doing. But I do like discussing in small groups. Talking in small groups helps us see the book from different perspectives. It also allows new ideas and thoughts to form.

My group members and I had a good first discussion about our book. We were confused at first on what each person in the group was supposed to do.I did feel like having a small group discussion helped us understand and talk about the book with the pages we had read. We were organized with our discussion, and everyone contributed so it went smoothly. I did my reading and I was prepared for discussing the book with my group members, but now i actually have an idea of how to be more prepared for our next scheduled discussion date. I like reading in small groups like this rather than everyone in class all reading the same book. It is more organized this way and in the small group we have more of a responsibility to do our reading and our jobs we are assigned to in the discussion.
