Discuss your initial ideas about poetry...yes, you can be honest! How was Bill Watterson's poem on parents different from your ideas about poetry? Of the poems we have read and/or discussed in class, which was your favorite? Which was your least favorite? What did you react to? Were there any elements that you found confusing? Explain yourself thoroughly. Your response needs to be at least 100 words, and you need only respond to me.

If I'm being honest I'm not a big poetry fan...only because I think it's so hard to read at time and follow the pattern. I do like the messages a lot of them hold. That you can be extremely representative and be packed full of emotion and secret meaning. Or they could be about a duck. I think I guess in that way I do like poetry. I might still be stuck on the poetry they taught us when we were a lot younger where everything rhymed. I really like slam poetry and I watch a lot of it online because they have these passionate points they get across so beautifully and im jealous I can't do that. So maybe it's not that i'm not a fan of poetry is just that I'm jelous of people who fully understand it. I always feel like I'm missing something.

I am not a big fan of poetry. They are confusing and often take a bit more effort to read than I'd like. I love to read, but I usually just like to either connect or be entertained by what I'm reading. The poem Porphyria's Lover is entertaining because, wow, what an ending. It hits all points that entertain me, love, danger, mystery and horror. If I can manage to understand a poem and be entertained by it, then I'll love it. If a poem is long, wordy, confusing and boring(in my opinion) then I'm going to hate it.

I do enjoy poetry, provided it is focused on something I enjoy such as mechanical or agricultural objects, just something I can relate to! If it is something very abstract, I find it quite hard to relate, therefore it is not fun to read. My favorite poem so far in class was Porphyria's lover, only because it was very entertaining and interesting, especially with that ending! My least favorite was the one about the men and buses, because I was so confused and lost it honestly made my head hurt. I just couldn't grab on to the main idea, whether that was actually buses or a metaphor about men and that is what confused me. Like i said, however, I do enjoy certain aspects of poetry and it is fun to write them in my opinion, especially if you can read that poem to someone or a group of people.

I like certain types of poetry, especially the ones I can understand. Sometimes I feel there needs to be a code at the bottom of some poems like the poem about buses and men, explaining that the bus is really a human. Porphyria's Lover was a good one. It didn't really catch my attention until the end.

I like the idea of poetry more than actually reading and trying to comprehend it. Bill Watterson's poem reminded me of the poems that I read all the time when I was little, but it was very different from much of the poetry that we have to read now. It's easily understandable and very upfront unlike the Shakespeare poetry we're expected to read in high school. His poem was actually my favorite from class so far because there's not much to analyze to understand it's meaning. It's cute and enjoyable to read without making you work for it. Pyphoria's lover was my least favorite because it left a lot of room for interpretation and although that's usually a good quality for poetry to have, it's just something that i'm not very good at.

Poetry has always been a relatively obscure concept to me. Most poems are open to interpretation and have a bunch of metaphors that only make sense if you have a good english background. Bill Watterson's poem fits my traditional idea of poetry because it rhymes, but it's also a lot more understandable to people who might not be into poetry, which is why it was my favorite poem that we read. My least favorite could have been any of the Shakespeare poems because of the Old English is boring and hard to understand. I still don't really like poetry because it takes longer to read because you have to stop and translate it and then comprehend it.

I enjoy reading poetry, but sometimes it can be a little hard to understand. So I guess it just depends on the poem for me. But I do love to read, so if I said I completely hated poetry I'd be lying. The poem I enjoyed the most that we read in class was "Bloody Men are like bloody buses" but I also really enjoyed "porphyria's Lover" because of the weird twist that happened in the end. I do not enjoy reading Shakespeare poems because they take a lot of time to read and you have to stop and comprehend every line.

I enjoy poetry, but usually not until someone explain all the hidden meanings and things. I have a hard time figuring that stuff out myself. I liked Bill Watterson's poem because it was simple, funny, and much easier to understand than complex poetry. I do enjoy all the Shakespeare we've done through out the years though. Even though it's difficult it's interesting to study something that's shaped and inspired so many people. Anyway, Poryphria's Lover is my favorite so far because of the creepy twist and the possible meanings behind it. I also enjoy the Taylor Mali that we've listened to.

I have never been a huge fan of poetry. I would much rather read short stories with the main idea popping out right in front of you. However, poetry allows you to twist the main idea or concept in a way you can understand it best and that's what I like most about it. It definitely helps if I can relate to the poetry in some way, otherwise I find myself getting distracted. My favorite poems we've read so far are Porphyria's Lover and Bloody Men are like Bloody Buses. I enjoyed picking apart these poems... it turned into more of a game. I enjoy slam poetry a lot and wish I could have that kind of talent.

I do not really enjoy poetry because it is hard to figure out what all the hidden messages mean in them. I liked Bill Watterson's poem because it was understandable and very easy to read. My least favorite poem was the Shakespeare poems because they don't really make sense. It is hard to figure out what Shakespeare is trying to say. He had a lot of puzzles you had to figure out to understand his type of poetry. My favorite poem that we read in class is "Bloody Men are like bloody buses," because it was a easier read and was a lot more understandable.

Poetry has been something I really have never enjoyed. Most poetry, for me, seems to be like reading another language; there often is obscure symbolism and references that I don't understand. The poetry I like the least would definitely be Shakespeare's because of its style. It is much harder to decode the language and relate to the writings. Because modern poetry is easier to understand and relate to, my favorite poem in class this year has been "Bloody Men are like Bloody Buses". This one was much easier to decode and understand the points the author was making about men in general.

I'm a fan of poetry and I respcect the people that are able to do it because it can be very difficult. I like poetry because music is a big part of my life, it helps me concentrate and focus on what I need to do, music is basically poetry with a beat which I think is pretty cool. My favorite poem we did in class was Men Are Like Buses. I like it becuase there are two meanings of the poem.

To be honest, I crindged when I heard we were going to be doing poetry. In the past when a poetry unit comes up, it ususally had to deal with Shakespear, and it was all super confusing and boring. Bill Watterson's poam was the exact opposite. It was simple, easy to understand and fun. His poam is my favorite so far that we have read in class. My least favorite is Porphyria's Lover, there was too much embedded meaning that is all debatable and complicated. I prefer the simple, straight forward poam.

I really dont like poetry! A lot of the time it just confuses me. There is one part I really do enjoy which is the hidden messages and the different ways you can perceive what the poet is trying to tell you. I think my favorite poet so far would have to be Taylor Mali he is extremely funny. I think the poem that has interested me most would have to be the Bloody Men Our Like Bloody Buses because it is fairly simple once you figure it out and its some what relatable in a few ways. The Poem I least liked the most would have to be Porphrias one. It really confused me and didnt peek my interest until the end because it was super creepy.

I like the idea of poetry, I've always enjoyed reading it. Most of Americans wouldn't consider most music poetry at first glance. I think it's pretty interesting when you find the rhythm to some poems without any background music to go with it. I liked the poem about Malcom x the guy who wrote it made it a very unique poem. How the poem was a conversation with himself which was amazing. I just have never seen it happen before, that poem probably beats every other I've heard.

I'm not a big fan of poetry. I like certain kinds about subjects but other than music I don't really like it. However I have enjoyed a few of the poems we've done in class like "Bloody Men are Like Bloody Buses". I enjoyed it because at a first glance it doesn't seem to have much meaning but once you realize bloody is being used in British talk and that it is talking about guys the poem becomes interesting and fun.
