React to the multiple choice passage that we did yesterday. What has been your experience with those passages up to this year? How is your confidence level when doing them? What have we done this year that you feel will help you in achieving a higher score on them? You only need to respond to me.

I've never been a huge fan of multiple choice packets - I love reading, but most of the passages we have are SUPER boring. This one, though, was rather interesting. I've never really had good experiences with multiple choice packets - I think I'm doing well, but I'm not! I'd rather breeze through them since I don't like doing them. So, clearly, my confidence level on them isn't very high. It's not that I need to be taught more on how to do them - I know how - I just need to slow down and take my time.

While I don't enjoy reading multiple choice packets, I usually do alright with them. I am pretty comfortable with my strategy, but I think I need to get the hang of it a little more and have a better attitude about them. I didn't do very well on the one we did yesterday, but that was mostly because I was honestly just not focused enough to do it. I could have spent more time and thought the questions through more, I just poorly chose not to. I really need to pay closer attention to the text and analyzing details of it.

My experience with the MC passages up to this point has never been positive. Even though I consistently do well on the packets, I have always had a bad feeling about them. Most of the time it is due to my dislike of the passage that was selected, but it is also due to the fact that I don't really like AP style questions. I just feel like AP words the questions in a way that will make you mess up. I feel like I just need to read for comprehension rather than to quickly locate where the questions are coming from.

I never feel good about those passages. I always feel like the way I interpret something will be different from what everyone else understands from the passage. I feel like I need to trust my gut more. Discussing why the answer is the right answer would be helpful, especially on the hard questions.

I tend to blow through the passages because I hate doing them. My confidence level has increased a bit, I suppose. I guess the best thing we did was just doing them at all forcing me to practice.

I do not particularly like multiple choice passages. I always feel rushed for time and like I cannot reach my potential under the time limits. My strategy has always been to read the passage and then answer the questions following that. This is what you told us to do in class and has always been pretty beneficial to me. If I could focus more and handle my time better I think I could do a lot better.

I feel somewhat confident about these multiple choice packets. I've always taken comfort in knowing that the answer should always be right there in the passage. It also helps to know that you don't need to get 90-100 percent of them right to get a desired score. Time seems to be an issue with me, whether it be the ACT or this. During the reading part of my ACT, I ran out of time multiple times and had to fill in random answers. Yesterday I answered all the questions with a little less than a minuet to spare. It's a difficult transition for me when I'm under a time limit, than say a grammar test which I have all the time I need.

In general, I have not had a positive experience with these short passages. My confidence level was not very high. After doing the activity in class, my confidence actually went up! Only missing three questions definitely helped that out! I think the thing that helped me the most was the close reading when we highlighted all the different aspects. That helped me train myself to look more closely for what was important instead of just scanning and finding nothing. I also think taking the ACT a million times has helped me. I know how quickly I can read and by teaching myself to read at a certain pace, my confidence has increased.

I am not a huge fan of multiple choice packets, to be honest. I typically do fairly well on them though. I am pretty confident in my strategy, but my main problem is that I tend to focus more on going through it quickly. Time limits do that to me, and especially towards the end, I mentally panic if I am not done when the five minute mark hits. Close reading has helped me improve upon this however, since it has taught me how to identify devices, trends, etc. very quickly. Not only that, but also it gives me a deeper understanding of what I am actually reading.

I loathe reading packets and multiple choice. I prefer reading for pleasure over reading for information. That being said, I actually do fairly well on assignments of this type. I typically do a decent job of narrowing down between the "correct" answers given, but choosing one that is more correct causes me issues. I second guess myself in literally every aspect of my life, and AP exams are no exception. I guess what would help me the most would be to overcome this habit of mine. I know how to find information in the text and I know how to read into what the author is attempting to accomplish. I just need to efficiently choose between the narrowed down options given to me.

In the past, I have done ok on multiple choice passages. I would get about half of the questions correct. I usually don't feel very confident while reading them and filling out the questions but after I see how many I missed I feel a little more confident. I like how we've analyzed different texts and I think the passage analysis we did with Heart of Darkness helps with multiple choice passages.

My personal interest in multiple choice packets are fairly diminished, as the subjects that are usually involved are much too simple (for my taste, anyway) to become properly invested in. Though I normally do quite well with these packets, I feel as though I can't truly enjoy what I've done. In this respect, yesterday's packet was a welcome change; the character was interesting, her dilemma was worth an engagement, and I felt as though I was actually learning a bit more about this story's meaning through the vicariate of the questions given. To conclude, I don't mind m.c. packets, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I feel that my confidence is marginally assured by this fact.

The passage we did yesterday was from Their Eyes Were Watching God, which I have read. However feel like I had an already formed opinion and must have analysed it incorrectly the first time, because I didn’t score was well as I had hoped. The reading section of the ACT is one of my least favorite sections. I’m usually not feeling very confident about them or when I am they turn out wrong. I think I need to stop being so stressed about the time management and analyze better. I’ve never liked reading the questions first because I feel like that’s precious time going down the drain. I feel like analyzing why the right answers are right will help me.

I have not had to take an AP test for English so I don't really know what to expect. When I take it on the ACT I felt like I prepared well and have had good study skills and I kind of know how to attack it and take an appropriate amount of time on each passage.

I have never been a fan of the multiple choice style passages. Most of the questions are worded in such a way that I end up over thinking them. However, over the last two years, I have got much better at taking them. Honestly, I would have to say that repetition is the best way to get better at these style of tests. The more that a person can take them, they learn how to take them more efficiently. So, with that being said, I think having practice multiple choice tests in class is a great help. After all, practice makes perfect.

I have never had much confidence in reading passages and answering test questions. I am also a very slow reader so that never helped my confidence in my test-taking abilities. I used to despise these types of tests. The beginning of the year, Mrs. Nixon actually suggested on my ACT that I answer the questions first and them transfer them to the booklet after finishing the page. I believe that will help me on my AP tests too. It clears up some distraction and allots more time for me.
