Find a poem that you feel has a solid argument. 1. Post the poem as part of your response. 2. Describe the Exigence, Audience, and Purpose of the poem. 3. What argument is the poet making, and what is his or her primary appeal. 4. Defend your responses with concrete evidence from the poem. 5. Read and respond to at least one classmate's poem and information. Your response should be in the form of agree or disagree, and you must back that up with evidence from their poem.

I think that while he is proud of his country, Whitman is more celebrating the people of the country rather than the country itself. He takes many examples of hard workers and proud men such as boatmen, carpenters, masons etc. and how vital they are to the United States.

I agree, the speaker is in love with someone who doesn't love him back. The first three lines basically say that no matter how much he loves her, she won't ever love him back.

I agree with your purpose, particularly. I think the writer/person "giving" the poem is letting the girl know that he loves her, as well as wondering why she's not loving him. I think Keats is using major pathos argument, so good picking up on that. I agree with your response as a whole, good analysis.

I agree with your response to this poem. He appears to love this woman with his greatest ability, and she clearly is no longer interested. She is playing the "dead fish." All this man wants of this woman is her love to him. He seems quite heartbroken and desperate without her love. You did say though, she needs to "love him or leave him," and one could argue she kind of already left him. It's like a bad high school breakup kind of thing

I Agree the author is having love problems, but more specifically she feels so strong about someone and the other does not feel the same.

I originally wanted to do this poem. I agree with your outlook of the exigence, purpose and audience. I thought of the hope in a broader scope, but the issue of segregation and racism makes sense considering who the author of the poem is.

I agree that this is the speaker pondering his life decisions and what he should choose. Everyone comes to a fork in the road and they always think that the most popular route is the best for them. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference" shows that just because everyone went one way, the one less traveled was the best one for him.

I agree, but I also think that the poem also implies that people should think for themselves when making large decisions. He decided to stray away from the common path, and in his case, it ended up being the best option for him. By saying this, he implies that just because everyone else is choosing something doesn't mean that you should too.
