I chose American Pie by Don McLean. I chose these lyrics because at the end of each line, there is always a rhyme. Each verse and chorus rhymes with the previous one or the following.

For the lyrics I chose the song It Has Begun by Starset. I chose this song because its one of my favorite songs. I'm not sure why its one of my favorites. It just stirkes a cord with me. I'm not able to analyze the lyrics as poetry. I have never been able to analyze things as poetry. Everyone has something they're good at and I'm terrible at this. What surprised me was that I had no idea how to even begin analyzing it.

I chose Oceans by Hillsong because this has always been a song that has stood out to me for more than one reason. First, right after we found out that my step-mom was diagnosed with cancer we went to church the next Sunday. The first song that played in service was Oceans. The story of this song has always been one of my favorites since then and has continued to pop up at the best times. One thing that I noticed after analyzing these lyrics as a poem, the repeated words stood out. It continually repeated the moral of the song and made it really pop. It made me realize why I love this song so much.

For my lyrics I chose to do lyrics in the song "Drunk Americans" by Toby Keith. The lyrics I chose were "We're all mud flaps and 'burbans, all ball caps and turbans,..." This is just part of the song but I love these lyrics because the whole song talks about equality. We often don't treat each other with any kind of equality in todays society and it's really sad. Every time I hear this song it amazes me that someone of Toby Keith's social status as a singer would be singing a song that may be controversial to some people.

The song I chose was "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback. I really like this song and it's been with me really ever since it was written in 2005. It is a great song to listen to, but the lyrics tell the world how life is, and how it could be. Before now, I hadn't really realized the deeper meaning behind the song- I had just enjoyed listening to it. But when I saw the lyrics on paper, I could tell that this would be an ideal song to do. When you read or hear what they say, it illustrates a principle that most of us know but really don't try to exercise- be nice. If we could just put others in front of ourselves and actually show that we care, then we wouldn't have all these problems that exist in the world. If we all tried to change, we could do something great.

The song I chose is Holy War by Thy Art Is Murder. This song is about the issues that religion is having on us. In cases it is crippling us and seems to me as slowing us down as a society but that is my opinion. I chose this song and lyrics because I love the way this song sounds and the message behind it I agree with. After attempting to analyze this song I realize how hard it is to analyze a heavy metal song especially if you analyse it the correct way as in the way they sing it.

I chose the song "Lets Start a Riot" by Three Days Grace. I chose this song because almost every other line in this song rhymes with the last line. I chose this particular song because it's a song that has been with me for a long time and every time I hear it, it gets me pumped up. What stood out to me was the actual meaning behind the lyrics of this song and that they had meant totally different meanings than what you would expect, this is why I really like this song. What surprised me the most was the connection that I could personally make to the song, which would explain why I like it so much.

I chose these particular lyrics because this song has a lot of memories attached to it. My mom listened to it while I was growing up, and it is a comfort to me. I also chose it because since it rhymes so well, I figured it would be easier to analyze. After analyzing it, I was surprised that it was actually written mostly in iambic pentameter. I never realized how much thought was put into writing this song. I also found it interesting/fun to mark the stressed and unstressed syllables. Occasionally it is difficult to know exactly which syllable the author wants you to stress, but singing the song in my head made it clear which ones were stressed.

I chose the song End Of The Road by MGK. A lot of people hear MGK and think he's just any other rapper but he's much deeper than that. This song particularly sticks with me because it's all about how he started from nothing and turned it into something so great. No one believed in him when he was working towards his goal and I very much relate to him in the sense that I have a lot of people tell me that I can't do what I'm currently doing because it's not written in the rule book and it's not an orthodox way of living. He uses very complex and clever rhymes throughout the song and my favorite verse which really captures my attitude towards those who say I can do something is

I chose these particular lyrics because they have a personal meaning to me. They've always stood out to me because I've always enjoyed the song as a whole, and there's so much meaning behind the lyrics. The lyrics are about the Lord, and the holy spirit. To me, there's nothing more important than the Lord and what He did for us sinners. That's why I chose these lyrics. What stood out to me was there were more rhyming patterns than I expected. I've known the lyrics word for word for a long time but never processed how much rhyming there actually was.
