Poetry is pretty cool. You can make it about any subject you want to. There are so many different types of poetry that I didn't know about. Before we started this, I always thought that poetry had to rhyme in some way. I learned that it doesn't have to rhyme. I also learned that how the person who writes it and how it is formatted, was for a reason. For instance, I saw a bowling one. The words were the direction that the ball was going on the lane. Poets also play around with punctuation which is pretty cool. You pretty much make it your own where I thought you had to follow certain formats for it to be published.

My first impression of poetry is that it seems fairly easy to understand. I used to not believe how some of the famous poems from Dr. Seuss and others actually follow patterns. I always thought that it was a rare part of our language to be able to create poems in rhyme and rhythm. I would have never thought that there is actually a mathematical side to poetry. I am very math centric so I think I will be able to understand this very well. As soon as I can get the syllable part of poetry down, I believe that I will be able to comprehend all of it very easily.

Poetry can sometimes be intimidating. The first thing I often associate poetry with writings from Shakespeare which can take a while to understand. The rules of grammar do not apply to poems. The writer and choose to put any punctuation wherever they like to help add to the poem. What I understood before but got a little more clarity with, is that poems have many different styles. Poetry can be very simple and have no rhyme or rhythm. This relaxed style of poem is called free verse. I’m not very excited about breaking down the poems but from this, I know I will learn much more about poems than I did before.

I never used to like poetry. This is probably because we were forced to memorize meaningless poems in middle school. This really pissed me off and I have never really liked it since. However over the past few years I have warmed up to it. I am interested in going further with poetry, mostly because I have already learned something new, the way poems become structured. I believe having a basic understanding of poetry is definitely an advantage. This is because having an understanding in order to carry a conversation about it with someone who is actually interested in makes you seem more well rounded.

Before starting this section on poetry I thought it was just a bunch of boring, pointless sayings. I realized that you can pretty do whatever you want when you write poetry which is pretty cool. When I think of poetry I think of Romeo and Juliet and Dr.Seuss. I really never thought about the different kind of foots and the mathematical side of poetry.

My first impression of poetry was that it’s not all just rhymes. I always just thought it had to rhyme or follow some type of pattern but now I know it does not. It really shocked me when I found out that you don’t have to follow a specific pattern. Also I found out that the way the author formats it is for a specific reason. I am somewhat looking forward to moving forward with this, I would like to be able to comprehend poetry better. So I’m excited to look and read some poetry and learn meanings behind them.

I have personally always thought poetry is really interesting. I am probably a nerd but I like deconstructing them and finding the underlying meaning and what the author was feeling when they wrote it. I was surprised by how much thought went into the old time poetry like Shakespere. I never knew about breaking it into feet and that there were multiple kinds of feet. I always wondered why we learned syllables in grade school and I know why now! I feel actually pretty confident, the feet I am kind of confused on but other than that I think I am doing all right.

My first impression of poetry wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't realize that there was so much poetry other than the lovey dovey crap that no one likes. There is sports, and all kinds of things. I do enjoy looking at certain poetry that I can really relate with, especially the sports ones, they tend to get me going. I feel like from here on out it’s going to go down hill. Once we got the sheet that we got about the identifying poetry, I just think it’s going to completely south from there on out.

I've always really liked poetry, and thought it was a great way to express yourself. When I found out I'd have the opportunity to learn more about poetry I was looking forward to it. However, I did not know there were so many different styles of poems. It gets difficult sometimes trying to count syllables to figure out what meter it has. I think it will get better with more practice. Learning more about poetry in this class hasn't changed how I view it. I still will continue to like it and believe that it is a good way to express your emotions.

I like reading poetry and finding out the different meanings behind it. There is so many different kinds of poetry that I never even thought of. I guess I never realized that someone could write a poem over basically anything and sometimes it doesn't even have to rhyme. I don't like trying to figure out the meters and identifying the rhythms and I am pretty terrible at math so maybe that's the reason why I don't like that part. I rather just read it. Never the less I think this unit should be a good one that will be enjoyable.

When we started the poetry section I didn’t know what quite to expect. I thought that poetry was all about lovey dovey things and rhymes, but I was wrong. Poetry can be like that, but a lot of it isn’t. A lot of poetry have different meanings and messages. Shakespeare intimidated me because it was very hard to understand and I had no idea what I was reading. I’m excited to learn more about poetry and learn more about the structures that the author uses. I’m excited to read more poems and see what else I can learn from them.

I grew up reading Shel Silverstein and I always enjoyed it. When we first stared doing poetry in middle school I enjoyed it because it was something other than reading books. I like poetry because it is a way to express your feelings without writing a book 700 pages long. I feel like learning different parts of poetry will be difficult but it will help break down the meanings and I think that will be interesting. I'm excited to keep going forward and growing my knowledge in poetry.

This impression on poetry is not my first. I've dealt and worked with it before and I enjoy it very much. It is very interesting and when I find a poem that speaks to me, I stick with it and it feels like it is a part of me. Before I learned about poetry, I just thought of Romeo and Juliet every time it was mentioned... but now I think much deeper than that. Poetry is a whole different world of expressing feelings. It is a get away for most people from the real world and it is also a way to blow off steam. I feel like we should keep working on poetry but keep letting us explore more poetry that would speak/interest us. Classes before this usually just gives us a book or papers of boring poetry that they think is fascinating when we don't ever get pulled in enough to even want to keep reading. Poetry to me is when you find words that relate to you and or make you feel something that you needed or wanted to feel so I am excited about moving forward with it.

My first impression on poetry was that it was a bunch of words that rhymed with each other. The first thing I thought of was Romeo and Juliet. I didn't know that there were so many different types of poetry. Poems are everywhere in life and we don't even notice them. In the past, we have had to memorize poems for classes and I thought it was pointless. I now realize that poetry tells a story about what you are thinking. Some poems can be deep and you might not be able to understand them at first. I think that moving forward with poetry will be kinda cool.

My first impression of poetry was that it can be very interesting that it can have several different meanings to it depending on how you look at it. I use to think that poetry was boring because I had never really looked at any poems before. I feel good about going forward with the poetry section because there can be a lot of meaning behind a few words and I've learned a lot so far about the different types of writing styles of poetry.
