Find and post your favorite cupcake recipe. Once everyone (or most) have posted, go back in and comment (vote) on your favorite recipe of the ones posted. You may NOT comment on your own post. The cupcake recipe that receives the most posts will be crowned the winner, and I will make them for class. Have fun and Happy Cupcakes:)
The Journey Up the River (pgs. 30-34). How does Marlow describe the river? Why does this cause him to insult his companions on the boat in the Thames and thus to create another break in the narrative? How does Marlow go on to describe the journey as "we penetrated deeper and deeper into the heart of darkness" (31)? What does Marlow think of his crew (31-32)? Who are they? What does he think of the fireman (33)? Your post needs to be at least 100 words, and you need to read and respond to at least 2 of your classmates.
Discuss something you "discovered" in your analysis of pages 22-23 of H.O.D. How do you feel the close reading of those two pages helped you to see elements you may have missed on your first reading? Explain. Do you feel like the group aspect of that analysis was beneficial or are you ready to branch out on your own? Explain. Your response must be at least 100 words, and you only need to respond to me.
Since we taxed your brain this week with your official ACT, we have decided to give you a short reprieve from your forum. Check back next week!
In working through the H.O.D. passages using the Notation Directions, what have you noticed? What have the highlighting and notating allowed you to see that you wouldn't have noticed otherwise? Explain. In your opinion, what is the value of doing an activity like this? How do you foresee it helping you in the future of this class? Your response must be at least 100 words, and you only need to respond to me.
In the middle of page 3, the narrator compares stories of seamen to a nut, but he says that Marlow's were a little different, "not inside like a kernel but outside, enveloping tale which brought it out only as a glow brings out a haze, in the likeness of of one of those misty halos that sometimes are made visible by the spectral illumination of moonshine." Explain what you think he means by his comments on the telling of a story? On the “kernel” and “the misty halo”? What do these comments reveal about Marlow? Your response must be at least 100 words. You need to read and respond to at least one classmate, and those responses cannot simply be "agree" or "disagree," but must provoke discussion.
http://www.utm.edu/staff/lalexand/brnovel/Heart.htm (You will need to copy and paste the link into the address bar) Read the information contained on the link provided as historical context for Heart of Darkness. Your forum for this week is a response to that information. What stands out as being significant to you and why? Explain in depth the different elements that you feel will be important as you read the novel. Your response must be at least 100 words, and you need to read and respond to at least two of your classmates in a manner that promotes discussion (not, "I agree, great response.").
Discuss the chapter from How to Read Literature Like a Professor that you feel is the most helpful or that you feel will benefit you the most in your academics (specifically, this class!). Do not just discuss the chapter that you taught:) Think about what stood out to you as significant. Explain how you will use the information in the future. Your response needs to be at least 100 words, and you only need to respond to me.
