For this week, you all are in charge of the discussion topics. Keeping in tune with what we have been reading and studying in class, post any question or discussion starter of your choice. Along with posting a question or discussion starter, you must also read and respond to at least 2 of your classmates, but feel free to respond to more.

My favorite poem so far is "A Study of Readying Habits". I like it because it's about growing up and realizing that real life is as perfect as it is in books.

My favorite poem is the one about the gun and flowers because I easily read the gun part and connected to it.

If you have not read ahead for A Thousand Splendid Suns, how to you think Laila's story and Mariam's story will connect later in the book?

I like Laila a lot because she's a tom boy and seems to have that no care attitude about being girly. She's also really intelligent.

What makes certain poems more relatable than others? Is one genre more relatable than another? Why?

I think the language of the poems and how they are written make them more relatable. Like how Shakespearean language is generally very hard to read, making it very hard to relate to. I think free verse is the easiest to relate to since it can follow actual speech patterns instead of following rules.

The fact that in some societies people can be so oppressed and have to live with literally everyone they knew leaving or dying. Especially frustrating is the way women are treated in their homes and being sent off to marry someone they don't know.

The most frustrating part for me was when Mariam's dad married her off. I think love is such a sacred thing, something she will never truly get to experience.
