My first impression of poetry was when I was about five or six years old, and at first I never really approximated it because I used to hate reading. But when I turned about 11 I was at a high school reading level and became obsessed with poetry and have loved reading it ever since. I love being able to have different ideas and standpoints of what the poem is about and how you want to picture things in the poem. I'm reall excited to be continuing poetry this year, and am excited to be finally learning about it instead of just constantly reading it.

I like poetry, I have always liked it although I like the poetry that rhymes and that is more 20th-21st century. Probably because it is easier to understand however I also see that you can relate poetry written from further back to events today. I am excited about going forward and learning more about poetry. I wish that we studied more of the content of the poems and the meaning behind them as apposed to dissecting them for tone and such. I like when he have class discussions because I think that everybody sees the poems differently and its nice to see every bodies views on each poem. I didn't expect that I would like Shakespeare sonnets as much as I did and I still don't really like them when I just read them because I have a hard time figuring out the meaning on my own but I like when we discuss about them and then I can figure it out.

I have really enjoyed the poetry section. Although I'm not a huge fan of analyzing it on my own as homework, I have loved our class conversations about it! Before we started, I did not like poetry because I had never connected to it personally, so this unit has showed me how easy it is to do so and how much more enjoyable it makes poetry. I really loved when everyone picked a poem and presented their view on it because we don't often get to open up and be honest with our classmates. It was really refreshing to talk about stuff that is actually important to us. I am excited to continue with poetry.

When we started the unit I didn't have much of an opinion on poetry. Excluding my Dr. Seuss exposure as a child, and the occasional poem on my dashboard on Pinterest, I hadn't really had much experience with it. Now that we've gone through a couple poems I've found that there are a few I do enjoy, while the rhyming scheme in others make me irrationally angry. I also seem to interpret things in a slightly different manner than others seem to do. I do appreciate the better understanding of how words can be used to create stories like this.

I do not like poetry very much. It is hard to understand because there is so many different ways you can take it. My views on poetry are about the same as before we started this. I might actually dislike it more now than I did before we started. I think I understand poetry more now but I still don't feel very good about it going forward. But I really don't have a choice so I'm going to have to learn and understand it more.

I actually really like poetry; I always have. While I do find it difficult to grasp at times, I still enjoy it. I love that you can almost always pull something out of a poem that relates to your life. It’s an art form that everyone can relate to - if you try hard enough. I struggle with learning the meter and other parts of the poem but overall it has been helpful when analyzing. I don’t think I could ever write poetry - in fact I know that I couldn’t (I’ve tried) - but nevertheless, I still enjoy reading and analyzing it.

In general, I tend to enjoy reading poetry. The only time that I don’t like it is when I don’t understand the meaning of the poem or the author’s purpose. I have enjoyed reading Shakespeare in past classes, but I’d never really done anything else with poetry before this. I didn’t really read much poetry before we started this, but I have since grown to enjoy analyzing it and try to find deeper meanings. I am excited about continuing poetry because it is interesting to see how someone else interprets a poem or analyzes it versus your own point of view.

Growing up, I always liked poetry...if it was by Shel Silverstein. I never was against poetry, but would never really read it if I had a choice. Now, coming back to it as a senior in high school, I have actually really enjoyed what we have done with it in our class. I have found that I really like the sappy ones, but that was no surprise considering I am a huge romantic movie fan. I also have enjoyed all the ones are motivating or give you hope. As we continue to go forward, I am excited for more the discussing side of poetry and not the poetry packets.

My first impression of poetry was when I was younger, and I don't exactly remember what I thought of it. However, due to the fact that I do not enjoy poetry now, I assume I didn't enjoy it much either when I was younger. My ideas of poetry don't really differ much from now. Nothing has really changed much on how I feel about poetry. To me poetry is boring and does not interest me one bit.

My first impression of poetry that I remember wasn't really until high school. When I got a twitter account I followed a poetry account and I absolutely loved it. Some of the poems are a little sad for my taste but some of them were really good. I think the poetry we are doing now is obviously much more deep and meaningful. The poetry we are doing now is harder to understand for obvious reasons. I like the newer poetry as a result because it is easier to relate to and easier to understand as far as diction goes. Going forward with poetry I just hope to gain a better understanding of how to understand the poems quicker.

My first impression of poetry ever was a mix of fascination and confusion. I was very interested in poetry and the different types, and, yet, it confused the heck out of me when I would read a poem and I didn't understand a single thing it tried to convey. The only poets I really used to read between grade school and middle school were people like Theodor Geisel, Shel Silverstein, and a little bit of William Shakespeare. By the time I got to be about a freshman, I understood more of the poetry that I hadn't been as into as a middle schooler, like Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, and others. I do like poetry, though I find it difficult to understand, but overall, my opinion is mostly positive.

My first impression of reading poetry was when I was little reading a Dr. Suess book. But you could really say my first true impression of poetry when I actually determined the meaning behind poems was when I was in 7th grade and read a poetry book of Jackie Kennedy’s favorite poems. I’ve always liked how each poem is unique. It could be odd, or simple, or very complex and have interesting meanings. I like reading poems and analyzing them when I’m the only one that can see what I think. I’m really looking forward to be able to read more poems this semester.

I didn't really know what to think when we started poems, especially since the last poem I've read was green eggs and ham. I've come to realize that I do, in fact, feel ambivalent towards poetry. Some poems are pretty good, and other ones drive me crazy. I've learned that I hate 1600's poems but love the more modern ones. I'm definitely getting more comfortable with poems going forward, and it's getting easier and easier to find the hidden meanings in them.

My first impression of poetry was when I was really little. I just remember I would make my parents read Dr. Seuss to me before bed and I always loved the rhymes and stories. Then freshman year in Mrs. Marion’s class we had to do a poetry anthology project and I didn’t like searching for the poems themselves but I really enjoyed listening and reading other people’s poems. I honestly like poetry now and going forward I just don’t like analyzing them. I would prefer to just read them and talk about it.

I don't really like poetry. It's too complicated. You can interpret it in a ton of ways, which makes the meaning confusing and hard to analyze. Maybe it's good that there could be different interpretations of a poem. A poem can relate to more people that way. After discussing some poems in class I am starting to appreciate and understand it more, but not enough to feel confident enough to pass the exam. I really do like discussing the poems in class and hearing everyone's thoughts on it. The poems confuse me so I don't have a lot to say on the matter. Hopefully, as we move forward poetry will become less confusing and I can start feeling more confident about it.

First off, early English poetry is super awful but really deep so I am very conflicted about it. Analyzing poetry isn't my favorite thing but it also isn't awful. Before I had to start doing all the TPCAST stuff I didn't really read to much in depth of any of the poems but now I kinda like it because I get a better understanding of it. I am really looking forward to getting better at understanding the poems not only for the test but also just for me. I think poetry is just so beautiful (well..some of it) and it can definitely can be a life saver in some really tough situations.

I do not remember having a positive opinion about poetry when I was younger, but I started having an appreciation for it as I started high school. I tend to be very fascinated by poems that I can relate to while feeling indifferent about those I cannot. The poems we have gone over in class has yet to catch my interest. If we keep going over similar poems in the future, I don't think I will be able to enjoy them. Nonetheless, I think poem is an amazing form of expression that is unique not only in the way the author writes it, but also how to reader perceives it.

My first ever impressions of poetry was "wow!" this is fun, I love green eggs and ham! As I have gotten older i have come to realize that poetry is much more than just a bunch of "rhymey" words all strung together. This is furthered my knowledge and made me realize that poetry is really quite deep but only goes as deep as one wants to take it. With all this it has made appreciate poetry more than I did before the unit started. Because of this I am super comfortable with the unit and am ready for it to move forward and continue.
